Slash and burn. Well, maybe not burn but I'm not ruling it out. [ 2008-01-26, 11:20 p.m. ]

Beth turned 2 today. We spent the day in Coogee and I couldn't imagine a better place.

Its wonderful that her birthday is on Australia day. People were in a festive mood. It made it seem as though everone we saw was celebrating the Boo's birthday.

She is singing happy birthday to herself and then blowing at the end. (Because you have to blow out the candles!)

The two wenches at work have set me up for a disciplinary meeting next wednesday which I basically dont' even want to think about, let alone expand on in here. Its total rubbish of course. So anyway, I applied for a job last night and one just now. I plan to apply for a job per night. I have to get a hit some time surely. It's the shot gun approach.

I cut the grass yesterday. To be honest though the words 'cut' and 'grass' really have nothing to do with what I actually did. More like 'hacked' and 'jungle'...

I have to use the electric hedge trimmer which is like a massively suped up electric knife.

As I made my way throught the strata of greenery I found varying enclaves of insects and lizards. The grasshoppers were bunched together, tens of them, next to the shed wall. Different spiders had found their homes at different heights of the jungle. (They all got transported by the end of a stick into one big 'spider' bowl which I must remember to give a wide berth.) Little lizards scurrying through the lighter patches of verdensity (of which there were few.) And a praying mantis which seemed very aware of its plight as I scooped up a clump of offcuts to go into the bin. It took several running jumps to get off the pile before it was too late. Plucky little fellow.

I decided to 'cut' that 'grass' because the next door neighbours' kids were losing too many of their balls in there, never to be seen again. (Having said that, I found some old ones, a tennis ball and a spongy soccer ball, down near the dirt level, rotting away and infested by some strange grey insectoids I'd never seen before and which I very hurriedly pushed into the corner of the garden with the rake before running away and shivering.)

Luisa is looking more and more lovely every day.
